An initiative of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference, Social Justice Week each year promotes action and reflection on social issues of the day. Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand has responsibility for promoting Social Justice Week and providing resources for schools and parishes.

St Patrick’s Parish, Masterton Social Justice Group bottling day, Saturday 15 September at 10:00 am
Join the St Patrick’s Parish Social Justice Group at Moore House, Russell St, Masterton for a day of fun, conversation and making jam and other bottled goodness. Come along and help on the day. There will be a lot to do that day from peeling fruit to cleaning up afterwards and everything in between.
The group are asking for donations of jars and fruit and will even come and collect it off the tree for you. Come along and share your expertise in making jams etc. All filled jars will be donated to the Masterton Foodbank.

poverty in light of the Children’s Commissioner’s Expert Group report on Child Poverty.

A public discussion with Toa Waaka – matauranga Maori specialist in Maori astronomy, anthropology and cosmology. He will speak at St Joseph’s in the Bill Pearce Room, Ellice St, Mt Victoria, Wellington. Toa’s topic will be the Matariki which marks the beginning of the Maori New Year, the relationships between food planting and gathering and the moon, stars and the sun. A thirty minute address will be followed by questions, discussion and supper. A koha on the night for the Refugee Family Reunification Trust and the Caritas appeal for Sahel (West Africa) would be appreciated. Everyone is welcome and parking is available.
